Fight for the Elevator
If you had to live in a power chair from day one, what's the one thing you'd fight to get on that chair?
The elevator.
Not a building elevator. The one on the chair. Seat elevator. It goes up and down, and that little bit of height changes the whole room. You can reach the cabinets. You can get into the high closets. You can sit at a real bar with everybody else instead of staring at a wall of stool legs.
Without it? You're basically sleeping with your chin on the bar. That's the view. Stool legs, elbows, nobody's face.
I love it for going out. Eye level with people. That's the freedom part.
So what's the catch?
Insurance and the providers will usually only buy it, or add it to your chair, if you need it to reach kitchen cabinets or closets at home. They will not buy it so you can pull up to a bar and socialize like a normal person. Even though that's really what you need it for.
And here's the thing: everybody in a chair who has a house already has stuff all over every countertop. You're not hunting the top shelf for the coffee. Socializing is way more important than reaching the upper cabinets in your kitchen.
So the paperwork says kitchen. The life says bar.
Exactly. Write it for the cabinets. Use it for the world.
